Nicholas Lou Saban Jr (born October 31, in Fairmont, West Virginia) was the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide football team from January until his retirement in January During his year tenure at Alabama his teams won 9 Southeastern Conference championships and 6 National Championships.
Saban grew up in Monongah, West Virginia, southwest of Morgantown and played quarterback for Monongah High School, leading them to the West Virginia state title. He accepted a scholarship to play defensive back for Kent State University and was on campus during the shooting of four students by members of the Ohio National Guard.
He married the former Terry Constable on December 18, After graduating in he joined the Golden Flashes coaching staff as a graduate assistant, and completed a master's degree in sports administration in

Saban previously made stops in the NFL as a defensive assistant under Bill Belichick for the Cleveland Browns and Jerry Glanville for the Houston Oilers.
Collegiately, he held various coaching positions at Syracuse University, West Virginia University, Ohio State, Navy, and his alma mater of Kent State University. His first head coaching job was at the University of Toledo.

However, the sixth game of the season saw the Tigers stumble, as they lost at home to the Florida Gators, , who had a true freshman quarterback. That would, however, be the last stumble of the season for LSU.
From the disappointing loss, LSU dominated, winning seven straight, including the SEC Championship Game over Georgia. They were selected to play the Oklahoma Sooners in the Sugar Bowl, which was the site of the BCS Championship Game.

In his first season, the Tide went , showing marked improvement in some facets of the game, such as play calling and clock management, but also seeing inconsistent performances from skill positions and off-field disciplinary troubles.
